It's okay to ask for help

On World Mental Health Day, let’s all come together to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. Talking about our mental health can help us cope better with life’s ups and downs. So, on World Mental Health Day and beyond it, why not check in with your friends, family, peers, or colleagues?

World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. This year’s theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health is workplace mental health. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities.

As part of the Cardiff University community, we want you to know it's okay to ask for help! We've shared a some starting points below but there's a whole host of support available for you at Cardiff University.

Why not try:

  • Counselling and Wellbeing - you can fill out their self-referral form and organize an appointment with the Wellbeing Team or join the waiting list for counselling sessions.
  • Wellbeing Champions events - our Wellbeing Champions run events in the CSL every week where you can talk to peers about mental health and wellbeing.
  • Self-help resources - there a lot of self-help resources available on the intranet as well as links to local external organisations that can also help support you with your mental health.
  • Chaplaincy - you can visit the Chaplaincy to have a chat with any of the Chaplains regardless of your faith. The Chaplaincy also run lovely community events like curry lunches and dog walks.
  • Speaking to us! - The Residence Life Team are here to support you through your time living in halls of residences. You can come see us at your evening Res Life Lounges in your social spaces (details on Events page) or fill out our referral form to speak to a member of staff.
