Service hours and information for the break

Staying in Cardiff over the Christmas break and want to know what is available?

Residence Life

• Our programme of events ends on Thursday 11th December 2025.
• Our service is available for students (advice and support for students living in halls) until Friday 19th December. We operate between 9am-5pm the week commencing 15th December. 
• The service will be closed between 19th December to the 4th January. We will be running as normal from Monday 5th January 2026.
• Your Residence Receptions will close at 16:00 on Tuesday 23rd December and reopen at 08:00 on Monday 5th January.

Libraries

• The Arts and Social Studies Library (ASSL) and the Health Library (Cochrane Building) will remain open 24/7 throughout the Christmas break. You'll need your student ID card to access them.
• Other libraries vary individually so you can find their opening hours on the intranet.

School Buildings

• Aberconway, Two Central Square, Postgraduate Teaching Centre, Julian Hodge, Glamorgan, Tŷ'r Garth and the Park Place houses will all close from Saturday 13th December and reopen on Monday 5th January.
• Bute, John Percival, Michael Griffith Education Centre, Law, Tŷ'r Wyddfa, 69 Park Place, Tower and the Centre for Human Developmental Science will close on Friday 19th December (17:00) and reopen on Monday 5th January.

Centre for Student Life services

• The building will be open as normal until Friday 19th December. It will be shut between 20th-21st December and will reopen for normal hours on Monday 22nd December. On Tuesday 23rd December, it will be open 08:00-16:30 before closing until normal hours resume again on Monday 5th January.
• Student Connect will close at 16:30 on Tuesday 23 December and reopen at 08:30 on Monday 5 January.
• the IT Hub will close on Friday 12 December and re-open on Monday 5 January.
• the Student Futures Hub will close at 16:30 on Tuesday 23 December and reopen at 09:30 on Monday 5 January.
• The Student Health and Wellbeing Service will be closed from Friday 19 December 2025 until Monday 5 January.

Sports Facilities

• Sports Training Village is closed from 16:00, Tuesday 23rd December and reopens Saturday 3rd January
• Cardiff University Sports Fields are closed from Monday 22nd December and reopen Saturday 3rd January
• Fitness and Conditioning Centre is closed from Friday 19th December and reopens Monday 5th January

University Cafés

• Green Shoots, IV Lounge, BioSciences Café, John Percival Café, Trevithick Restaurant, Paned yn Sbarc all close at 12:30pm on Tuesday 23rd December and will reopen on Monday 5th January. See specific hours on the intranet for each place.
• Glamorgan and Julian Hodge Restaurant will be closed from Monday 15th December. Normal hours resuming varies throughout January.

Students' Union

• Students' Union will remain open 24/7 throughout the break, providing study space in the Lounge (3rd Floor).
• Student Advice will close Wednesday 17th December and reopen on Wednesday 7th January.
