Since lockdown, many people have tried their hand at learning a new skill and cooking is no exception. Whether you're a complete newbie, like trying adventurous dishes or just absolutely LOVE cooking then there are many Instagram accounts set up by people based in Cardiff that you can take inspiration from for your own delicious meals.
Here, we shed on some of those Instagram food accounts to follow now that you are living in Cardiff! So, what are you waiting for? Take a look at some of these accounts so that you can plan your next meal excursion, or take inspiration from to cook at home!
@culinary.conundrum: Go and follow and support one of our very own students here at Cardiff University who runs a culinary page! Sahana, a 2nd year medical student at Cardiff Uni, is a very big culinary enthusiast - with a particular focus on vegetarian food. She specialises in “healthy eats and indulgent bakes”. As part of every post, she discusses the recipe, ingredients, step-by-step directions and a short, honest piece of reflection on how the cooking process went. Her photos look so mouth-watering and aesthetic! We have no idea how she manages to cook so much and run such an amazing page all while studying medicine!
@avantgardevegan: A big name amongst vegan chefs, Gaz Oakley is actually from Cardiff! Follow his account for pictures of mouth-watering, fulfilling, vegetarian meals that even non-vegetarians can barely resist. (He is supposed to make a restaurant announcement soon, fingers crossed it will be in Cardiff!).
@cardiff.foodguide: Probably the biggest food guide account in Wales, this Instagram page offers detailed photographic reviews of restaurants throughout southeast Wales. They have a very extensive highlights section where they organise restaurants based on cuisine.
@cardiffhalalfood: This very popular and active Instagram account offers reviews of Halal restaurants in Cardiff and South Wales. They post pictures of the restaurants they visit and discuss food quality, price, portions and more!
@cardiffffoodie: Another food blogger and photographer based in Cardiff, this page is less of a food critique-type-of-page and more of a photographic food blog. A lot of their posts have to do with desserts and sweet foods!
@cardifffoodjunkie: For all those junk-food lovers, satiate your desires by following this Instagram page whose admin is a “self-confessed donut connoisseur”. Their posts have everything to do with the junkiest of foods including burgers, desserts, sweets, cakes, donuts and so much more!
@cardiffandswanseafoodie: Headed to Swansea for a night out or going there for a day-trip? Why don’t you check this Cardiff and Swansea food blogging account beforehand to decide on a place to take your friends and impress them?
@huntinghalalcardiff: There does seem to be a good portion of restaurants that are completely or partially Halal in Cardiff. As it may be difficult figuring out which restaurants are these, head over to this Instagram page to see what options are available. They also offer reviews on the restaurants they visit, although their reviews tend to be shorter and more straightforward.
@cardifffoodgirl: Emma, the “Cardiff food girl” started this food page recently (just March of this year) and regularly posts pictures from her outings to and ordering-ins from Cardiff’s restaurants. Her reviews tend to be succinct and less systematic than other food accounts, but she doesn’t always mention prices in her reviews. Every now and then, Emma also posts pictures from her homemade brunches and meals.
@cardiffbrunch: This account’s reviews are comprehensive and thorough. Reviews always include prices of every dish/meal ordered and often also include opening times, both of which are very useful! Sometimes, they even inform followers of any deals and discounts they become aware of. Many of their reviews are of desserts and sweets.
@diffoodreviews: This is yet another food blogging and reviewing account based in Cardiff that can inspire you to choose a restaurant to go to alone or with your friends when you have absolutely no idea what you want to eat!
@mincepiereviewswales: For those of you looking for an answer to what is probably the most critical question during Christmas time, "where to find the best mince pie?", we present to you this Instagram account that serves that exact purpose. They have been running the account for two years now, and during both of these years the same British supermarket has been declared victorious.
