8 fun things to do with friends over Zoom
Run out of ideas of what to do when on a zoom call? Here are 8 ideas that you could do on your next zoom/ video call with friends or family, to make lockdown a bit more fun.
1. Watch a film together
If you all have access to a Netflix or Disney+ plus account you can make use of extensions like Teleparty, or Twoseven which help to streamline the process of watching videos, films and YouTube at the same time. Maybe try it out when you’re next on a video call.
2. Do a quiz
Use websites such as Kahoot, or Quizizz where you can either create your own quiz or play ones that have already been made (these can be searched on Kahoot after registering), all you'll need to do is share your screen on the call. Or even just do it old-school and make everyone write their answers on pen and paper and see how much you and your friends know.
3. Make a Podcast
Zoom allows you to record audio, so if you share a passion with your friends and family, try creating a podcast from it. If you think it could be worthy of sharing, you could make use of some free services such as Audacity or Garageband to edit the audio file and use Anchor to upload and share the podcast on a website.
There are many videos for karaoke on Youtube, so just grab a Bluetooth mic and you're good to go. Also, make use of the services (Teleparty and Twoseven) from my first point in this blog to streamline the process so that everyone sees the same video.
It doesn't get any easier than Bingo. You can use a website like My Free Bingo Cards to play a traditional game with a virtual caller, or you can play a custom Bingo game that revolves around a movie or TV show that your group plans to watch.
6. Play Pictionary
One of the most classic games you would play, mainly because the rules are so simple. To play, divide your group into teams. Open this Pictionary word generator and choose a team to play first, as well as a designated drawer on that team. The drawer then has one minute to draw the generated word for their team to guess. If the team guesses the card correctly, they get a point. Also, an online version of this is Skribbl.io which lets you draw on the screen and other people have to guess what is being drawn.
7. Board Game Arena
Board Game Arena has a huge collection of board games. Once you have made your account just add your friends using their usernames and play as many online board games as you like. There is a massive collection of them so I’m sure there will be plenty to enjoy, just need to look through and find one.
8. Cookalong / Bakealong
If there is a recipe that one of you and your friends want to share then try doing it over a video call. Have a go at teaching everyone how to cook it and see which turns out the best, plus you’ll all have some delicious food to eat afterwards - win win!
